You heart is the one thing that will help you lose weight and have a happier life. That old saying of “home is where the heart is” comes back to us. It comes back in both the poetic sense and the physical sense.

Exercise has been advertised as not being important anymore, with the invention of the ever-present diet pill. In advertising, this is the most untrue statement ever released. Without any, even the smallest form, exercise, there will be no weight loss.

20 pounds is the average amount Americans desire to lose. Working out and dieting has not worked for these people. These people need exercise, eating right and a little self-control to get rid of those 20 pounds forever.

That average 20 pounds will not be lost with just eating right and moving around a bit more than usual. Increases in adrenaline and muscle movement and growth with cardio and aerobic exercises increase blood flow and oxygen flow. To lose weight, these are the only true things that will help.

Cardio exercises are those that are performed with the heightening of the heart rate in mind. The ideal heart rate for optimal exercise is 220 minus your age times 75%. An example would be, a person who is aged 40 would have an optimal heart rate of 135 beats per minute because: 220-40=180*.75=135.

It is difficult to check your pulse while exercising. You can do it by holding your wrist just above the thumb and counting the beats for fifteen seconds and then multiplying that by four. Another, easier way is by purchasing a small device that can either wrap around your index finger or neck.

To determine if your exercise is at the level you need it to be, counting your heart rate isn’t the only way. You are working out too hard if you cannot hold a conversation with a companion. You are not working out hard enough if you can hold a conversation with a companion and you are not sweating.

Aerobic exercises are different from cardio exercises in the mere fact that as long as you are working up a sweat of some kind, then you are working your heart. Gardening as well as cycling are some examples of aerobic exercises. The key is to be sweating by the time you finish whatever form of exercise you had chosen.

Aerobic ideals are that a good work out is about 10-20 minutes a day. If you are looking to lose more than just slim down, then about 30-40 minutes is recommended. Working out every day for hours on end is not necessary to reach your goals.

Depending upon the amount of time spent doing aerobic exercises, an average of 20 pounds can be lost. If you have not been active in the last couple of years, it is wise to allow yourself at least a year to lose that weight. Any physical or heart problems that might be affected by exercise must be a indication to take it easy with your exercising at first.

As with anything medical, it is always important to speak to your medical professional before starting any program. Your doctor will know what amount of exercise is good for you. Your doctor could also give you a list of cardio or aerobic exercises that will be the most beneficial to your goal.
