To those who have never tried yoga, it may seem a daunting task. Scantily clad men and women with the ability to contort their body in seemingly impossible positions may be enough to put people off before they even attempt to try any of the postures.

Yoga is one of the oldest systems of self-development and its gentle approach can help even the most inflexible of bodies to gently yield and limber up. The key to Hatha yoga is that it is non-competitive and progress comes through practice rather than forcing the body into extreme positions when its not ready. Yoga is more than an exercise regime; those who study this discipline say that it simply becomes a way of life.

The effects are noticeable too. Stronger muscles, greater flexibility and an inner calm cannot help but be projected outwards. Family and friends may not be able to pinpoint the difference but they will gradually notice that there is something different.

In yoga, the body postures are otherwise known as “asanas” and “pranayama” for the breathing. Both the body postures and breathing took part in relaxing the body and mind, increasing the vitality and flexibility, and the feeling of calmness in times of crisis. A calm feeling and inward confidence helps people endure stresses and strains in life, in this current society.

Yoga brings clarity of mind and confidence to the serious student who practices with focus and intent every day. The best time to practice is in the morning, although for many, the body seems stiff and achy in the early hours, so the yoga session can be adapted so that it suits the individuals body and agenda.

Yoga has no limitations on to who can and who cannot practice it. What is needed is the desire and intent to learn. With respect to the age or disability, the movements will be slower. However, progress is still guaranteed even if the movements are slower.

It is ideal and beneficial for starters to attend yoga classes. There, they will experience the guidance of experts when it comes to the proper posture alignment. They will also be taught about the benefits of each individual stance. The instructors can also demonstrate each stance from early stages to higher stages.

In some cases, like pregnancy, there are stances that are to be avoided. It is significant to let the instructors be aware of any illness or condition. This is to ensure the safety of practitioners.

Yoga can be done anywhere and that is the beauty of it. When you are at home, at the office, the beach, at class or the garden outside your house, you can perform yoga. Lastly, merely take pleasure while practicing yoga, no matter which discipline you try and where you want to practice. Enjoy the feeling of exercising your body and flexibility and improve your health.
