In days gone by, backyard weddings were the locale of choice if a more traditional setting, such as the local chapel or cathedral, proved to be unavailable. Over time this trend changed, and many a wedding is now held in the oddest location you might imagine: there have been underwater weddings and even those nuptials which are celebrated during the duration of a parachute jump. Yet in a true to form return to older values, the backyard wedding is once again gaining popularity and many a bride loves to incorporate the rich colors of the spring or summer foliage into the background for her marriage celebration.

Of course, planning a backyard wedding requires a bit of know how and anyone who has ever hosted an event set in a garden setting or an outdoor setting in general, know that there are certain difficulties and challenges which require braving. In addition to the foregoing, if it is the rich history of childhood and other happy memories which is inspiring the bride to be to choose the backyard for her nuptials, incorporating certain elements of these memories will be a good starting point for your wedding plans.

Generally speaking, one of the first hurdles to traverse is the guest list. Depending on the size of your backyard, your guest list will be somewhat limited. A couple richly blessed with friends and family members may choose to have an intimate ceremony in the backyard only to have a raucous celebration of their vows in a different venue that can accommodate all of those they would like to include in their happiness.

The advantage of such a smaller wedding of course is the lack of stress that will go into planning it! You will be more relaxed, save a lot of money, and actually truly have the opportunity to enjoy yourself rather than worry about last minute venue related details. This means you can spend even more on thewedding and engagement rings.

Probably the only expenses for which you need to prepare are the rental of a canopy and chairs for the guests. Since your floral budget also will be considerably smaller, you can invest more in alternative yard decorations, some of which make wonderful and memorable party favors for your attendees.

If you decide to keep it small even for the reception, what better method is there than a relaxing backyard barbeque? In the alternative, cold cuts and choice cheeses, as well as wraps of varying kinds will round out the big day. You may even decide to divide up your backyard so that one area will be the location of the actual wedding while the other areas will come into play during the reception and celebration. Even the danger of inclement weather may be assuaged simply by having an all weather canopy covering on hand - rentals of these covers are inexpensive and even just a handful of groomsmen can unroll and secure them in a matter of seconds.
