There are a number of important points to consider if you are to be successful in a job interview. One of these is knowing the right questions to ask. You may be asked at the end of the interview, “Do you have any questions for us?” The standard answer to this question is “No, thank you”. This is not what the interviewer wants to hear at all. If you say no, you are passing up a vital opportunity to ask some vital questions that may be the difference in the interviewer’s opinion of you. Asking questions in return indicates to the interviewer that you are interested in the job and you are aware of the company issues. This will in turn create a good impression and put you ahead in achieving the job.

You must ensure that you ask relevant and specific questions. To be able to ask such questions you must have all the background information about both the job and company. Thorough preparation is required for such a task. To start, you must collect all relevant data from the company web sites, magazines and brochures. Complete research is necessary for asking satisfactory questions to the interviewer. Request a copy of company policy, trading and business strategies and other issues to enable you to focus on important points. From these points, you can ask some intelligent and specific questions of the interviewer, who will immediately recognize that you have conducted extensive research and preparation for the offered job. You must study the employment terms and conditions and ask about any doubts you may have, as this shows that you are concerned about the job position and other related issues.

Some of the more important questions you should ask are as along the lines of: “As there are many companies setting up in this sector at this point in time, how has this organization been able to successfully maintain its growth rate and continue to appoint new staff members?” To this, the response should be extremely favorable and the interviewer should then explain to you what strategy the company is intending to follow in such situations and thus provides you with the insider’s point of view.

You can ask questions concerning your particular job, such as “Could you explain how this particular job has been executed in the past?” and “What are the enhancements you would want to see take place? To this the interviewer should inform you of the expertise involved in that job by giving you some particular examples. Then you must convince the interviewer that you have what the company is looking for, giving you an advantage.

It is appropriate for you to ascertain whether or not you will fit this particular position by asking questions such as: “What are the difficulties or challenges I may encounter in this job over the next three to six months?” Such a question should impress an interviewer and allow them the opportunity to inform you as to what is expected of you in the position. The interviewer should then explain any difficulties associated with the job.

From all the above questions an interviewer should obtain a clear idea of you level of preparedness and perception. Your research should bring admiration and may give you more cudos than your competitors. Asking the right questions in a job interview is a sure winning strategy.
