Nothing gets blasted more in the self-improvement industry than ‘Positive Thinking’. The cynical among us are quick to point out that just believing in something doesn’t make it true, and even the most optimistic optimist will concede that they don’t always take Positive Action based on their thinking.

The reason why positive doesn’t always work for people is because the positive thinking is only on the surface while deeper beliefs and thought are still negative. Even one deep seated negative thought is enough to interfere with the positive intentions that you set yourself.

Just thinking positively doesn’t get you anywhere though. You need to be taking the right action as well. But when most people need to start taking the right action they find their positive thinking fails them.

The opportunity to take the right action will expose your negative beliefs. Taking action forces you to confront all those negative beliefs and battle against them in order to get things done. Positive thinking is effective when it outweighs the negative thinking or when the negative thinking has been gotten rid of.

If you are able to focus completely on your goal and positive thoughts then it is of course possible to succeed despite those negative beliefs. This is how a lot of people operate. But it’s a real struggle, feels stressful and can be very draining. Also, those negative beliefs don’t change and you’ll have to deal with them every time you move towards new goals.

As per usual, Emotional Freedom Technique makes it a lot easier. You take action, then observe any negative feelings that come up, tap them away until taking action feels more comfortable. The feelings and thoughts you had weren’t coming from the reality of your situation, just your interpretation filtered through those negative beliefs.

When you take the time to identify all the negative thoughts and feelings that conflict with your Positive Thinking, and Tap them away, holding onto the positive worldview becomes effortless, and taking Positive Action - the real key to success in anything - becomes automatic.
