Oil & Gas Jobs, Am I Suited?
There is no doubt that the oil and gas industry is having to face up to an aging workforce issue. In the 80s, the industry went through a crisis, both confidence and financially and this meant it failed to attract new people to what had been up until that point the industry to be in for high earnings.
Because of what happened 50 is now the average age of the oil worker. What do you do? how do you attract people to what is perceived as a heavy industry. With 50 as the average, it means that there will be a lot of retirements sometime soon.
Thankfully Students have been gradually moving back to the geo-sciences, despte the pull of the computer sciences. the petrochemical indisurty has seen this as a great movement and have grasped it with both hands. They see this as the ying to the yang of the aging workforce.
A degree is not a prerequisite though, as there are many jobs within the oil and gas industry that can be gained without one. This includes everything from admin to site work
In time, after attending the training courses offered by the employer companies, people without the proper qualifications will be able to find higher positions in the company.
Positions for the industry are available in refining, production, administration transport, and various supervisory and technical. most people when they think of the industry think of someone covered in oil or with the waves beating against them as they struggle to connect pipework
While the above is still the case, a larger range of jobs is available, such as physicists, engineers, procurement. So there is no need to get your hands dirty to earn oil money
