Simple, handmade and homemade Christmas ornaments are some of my favorite ornaments to adorn the Christmas tree. Each year we hang our ornaments with my children’s photos, I reminisce about those memories, especially when I remember my kids as a youngster.

Let me share a few simple Christmas photo ornaments you can make. Even your preschool child could make the first one, so it is a great holiday craft idea for preschoolers.

Christmas Tree

Using a three inch tree template, cut 1/8 inch green spongeboard. Let your preschool child help you decorate the green tree ornament. Punch brightly colored dots from spongeboard. Your young child can blue these dots on to the tree as ornaments.

Next, cut a single 1/2 inch hole towards the bottom of the green tree. Glue your photo to the back so the picture shows through. Thread a curled ribbon loop at the treetop.

Cheap and simple, these splendid holiday craft ideas for preschoolers are a must for any budget-conscious individual. Let your kids make one for each family member. For that personalized touch, let each child write his name and age on the back with a black felt pen.

Felt Bells

My son’s first Mother’s Day Out teacher gave me one of my favorite Christmas ornaments using photos. His teacher cut blue felt in the shape of a three inch tall bell. A smaller white bell was also cut. She placed a hole in the middle for the photo.

You can attach the photo to the white felt so the picture shows through the hole. Glue the white bell on top of the blue one so there is a blue border all around.

You can mark the edges of the white felt with glitter glue pen. Make an opening in the bell top and thread blue ribbon to make a loop.

You’re almost finished with the project. Make another blue poster the same size and shape as the blue bell. Fasten it to the back to stiffen the holiday Christmas ornament. A small jingle bell linked to the bottom of the ornament also works well. As a memory, my son’s teacher wrote his name and the year on the back.

Wow, now you have an easy and cool-looking holiday Christmas ornament using photos to beautify your tree this season. And as an added plus, you have a handmade and homemade ornament to remember your child.
