Where do I get regalia at the last minute?
For your convenience, the Rensselaer Union Bookstore will be open beginning at 7:30 a.m. on commencement day. If you have misplaced your cap or tassel, please see the bookstore at one of the tables set up near the Main Gate entrance during commencement.A letter will be mailed to each student’s permanent address that has applied for graduation. This letter gives details of how and where to pick up cap and gown and have professional photos taken.
Why do you wear regalia?
Wearing regalia is historical and symbolic and, like a uniform, serves to indicate to members where they rank in the organisation.The Commencement Participation Form (CPF) is a two-part form available only in the packet of information mailed to eligible graduates prior to the ceremony date. This form must be completed and both parts returned to the University Registrar’s Office along with the appropriate fee in the envelope provided. The receipt of the form by NSU serves to reserve your place in the ceremony and to order the standard regalia (cap and gown) from the NSU Bookstore.

This is available to members only. We cannot supply spares or regalia lists online or via email. Armory and outdoor changing and storage tents at the Procession staging area. The D.C. Armory, located at 2001 East Capitol Street, S.E., adjacent to RFK Stadium, can be used to off-site, indoor changing. After changing, Procession participants can board free shuttle buses to the staging area on the National Mall.Yes.

Faxed forms cannot be accepted.Graduation regalia should be returned within two hours after the commencement exercises. Late returns will attract a penalty/restocking fee of $500. If it is not returned your account will be charged for the full cost of regalia.
What should I wear under my regalia?
To maintain the dignity of Convocation, we ask that you dress appropriate to the occasion. No flowers, jewelry or emblems can be attached to the regalia. The robes are knee length.Rensselaer adheres to the standards of the Intercollegiate Bureau of Academic Costume. The Bureau serves to administer and uphold the principles of the Intercollegiate Code established in 1895.
